Nunca jamás, durante todo el tiempo que estuve trabajando allí, escuché a nadie preguntar sobre los derechos o los salaries de la gente que trabajaba allí. Tampoco yo lo hice, las cosas allí estaban muy claras. Never ever, during all the time I was working there I heard any one asking about the workers salaries and /or their rights, either I did it by my self; things were very clear there.

Te imaginas, escuchar… Can you imagine, listen something like...

¿Los trabajadores reciben por su trabajo un salario digno? All the staff has a proper salary?

¿Os tartan bien aquí? Are all they being well treated?

Varios meses más tarde, después de haber abandonado el trabajo, me dejé caer por el restaurante; está vez, como cliente. Fue una situación singular. Una vez dentro, no quise marcharme; de algún modo, aquel era uno de mis sitios favoritos de la ciudad. Several months later, after have abandoned the job,  I visited  my old restaurant as a client. It was a truly special situation. Once inside, I didn´t want go away, in some way, that one was one of my favorite places of the city.

¿Os gustaría saber qué impresión dejó aquello en mí? Do you want to know what impression left on me?

Al fin y al cabo, había gastado una parte de mi vida allí. I had spent part of my lifetime there

No fui capaz de elegir un plato entre los muchos que figuraban en el menú. Estaba intentando grabar en mi mente el olor del pan recién hecho que venía del horno tandori que se usaba para hornearlo. La generosidad del trabajo, esfuerzo e ilusión que mis compañeros dedicaban (ponían) en cada uno de sus gestos, se reflejaba en cada plato. Las diferentes viandas habían sido emplatadas de forma muy cuidada, querían deleitarme, tan atentos como siempre. I was not able to choose any meal from the wide  menu. I found hard to decide.  I was trying to keep on my mind. the naan bread smell coming from the Tandoor oven which was used for baking it. I felt all my generous workmates effort and illusion was reflected on every single dish. The food was beautifully presented.  They were really keen on delight me, so attentive as always.

Por un instante, me quedé mirando a través de la barra que separaba la cocina del comedor, recordando cuántas veces estuve trabajando al otro lado. For a while, I was looking to the opened window kitchen, remembering how many times I had been working on the other side.

Fue mientras sujeta entre los dedos una de las cucharas plateadas de diseño que flanqueaban los platos cuando me di cuenta de que había llegado la hora de volver a casa. I was holding the stylish silver cutlery, when I realized it was time to go back home.

La cálida luz del sol se reflejaba difusa sobre el mármol del suelo y entonces pude ver el paisaje de mi pueblo natal reflejado en él. En aquel momento, comprendí las palabras de Akeel, cuando me decía que era capaz de ver su país sólo con cerrar los ojos. The warm light from the sun was reflecting on the marble floors, and I could see my village landscape reflected on it. At that moment, I understood Akeel´ s words, when he told me that he was able to see his country just closing his eyes.

Después de todo, haber estado trabajando allí, con todos aquellos compañeros y amigos había sido una experiencia más que gratificante. After all, have been working there, with all these mates and friends had been a worthwhile, pleasant life-experience.

No puedo explicarlo, pero me sentía muy orgulloso de haber podido formar parte de aquel equipo de criquet. I can´t explain it, but I was feeling very proud to have been participating in that cricket-team.

¿Cómo podría pagar esto? How  could I pay for this?

Si no te importa, pagaré al contado; en mano. If you don´t mind I will pay by (on) hand.

Se negaron a aceptar mi dinero. They refused me to pay.

Entonces traté de pagar con dinero escocés, pero de nuevo, no me dejaron, recordándome así que nosotros eramos algo más que colegas, que lo que nos unía era una buena amistad. Then, I tried to pay with Scotish money but again, I was not allowed to do it, just to remind me, that we were something more than workmates, more than  collegues, we had become good friends.

No hice más preguntas. No había nada más que preguntar. I didn´t ask any more. There was no more questions.

La propina. The tip

Antes de marchar, el mayor regalo, estrechándome sus manos de nuevo, por otro lado, como siempre lo hicieron. Before leaving, I was greeted with their warm handshake, on the other hand, like always they did.

Más que suficiente. Cuídate amigo. More than enough. Take care my friend
