Amen fue uno de mis primeros profesores –concretamente el segundo -. Era una persona extraordinariamente habilidosa con las manos, competente, rápido como ningún otro fregando platos, eficiente, meticuloso, participativo, colaborador y versátil, metódico, perseverante, organizado y decidido, capaz de hacer frente a cualquier imprevisto. Amen was one of my first teachers – exactly the second one-. He was somebody extraordinary skillful, very competent at drying the plaits, also fast, faster than no one, efficient and meticulous; perseverant, organized and decisive, somebody able to deal with any unexpected situation.

Me encantaba el modo en que movía sus manos; la perfecta ejecución de cada uno de sus coordinados gestos y la atención que le prestaba a cada detalle en todas las facetas de su trabajo. I really admired the way he moves his hands and the full coordination of each of his gestures. I do liked the way which he used to take care of every detail.

Conocía el tempo de las cosas; el pulso del restaurante, ya que en el tiempo – años – que llevaba trabajando allí, había pasado por casi todos los puestos, empezando; como se suele decir, desde abajo. He was very concerned on the timing of things, - the restaurant rhythm -, mainly due to have been working for years in each one of the different posts.

Solía estar muy atareado pero a pesar de ello nunca cejaba en su empeño. He was always very busy but instead of this he never went down.

Eso sí, siempre con prisas… But of course, always in a hurry…

Cuando estrechamos nuestras manos el otro día me di cuenta de algo sobre su particular fisonomía. Tenía varios dedos ligeramente deformados; seguramente porque había dedicado demasiadas horas a ese trabajo, demasiadas heridas y demasiada energía en desarrollar su tarea, que consistía básicamente en manejar la trastienda del restaurante, la parte del mismo situada entre la sala y la cocina, entre los clientes y los cocineros. When we shock our hands the other day I realised something about his particular physiognomy (feature). He had several fingers slightly deformed, surely because he has dedicated many hours to this job, too many wounds and too much energy to develop his job, which was -basically- to managing “the back” properly, the part of the restaurant located between the floor and the kitchen; between the customers and the cooks.

Amen siempre fue un buen profesor, un buen maestro; alguien capaz de comunicar y trasladar su propia experiencia; adquirida tras años de trabajo duro, corrigiendo errores, paso a paso -, a todo aquél dispuesto a aprender. Amen was definitely a generous teacher, a good magister; somebody able to communicate his own experience - acquired after years of hardworking, little by little, correcting mistakes, step by step -, to all those willing to learn from him.

Lo que más me gustaba de él, su mejor cualidad, era su actitud; el respeto con que trataba al resto del equipo y por encima de todo, el respeto que profesaba hacia sí mismo.What I liked the most about him; his best quality, it was his attitude; for example, he used to work always from the respect to rest of the staff and overall, to himself.

Amen era infatigable, ni siquiera hacía descansos; todo con tal de terminar el trabajo a tiempo. Overall he was very generous and able to keep working, without a break in order to get everything finished before his shift ends.

No hay tiempo para divertirse. There is no amusement time

Solucionaba problemas, no los creaba. Era muy intuitivo y sabía perfectamente lo que cabía o no hacer en cada momento. Era amable, paciente, educado y atento con los clientes. Sin duda, un buen camarero. He used to solve problems, didn´t create them, thanks to the true fact that he was very intuitive and also he was very conscious on the difference between right and wrong. He was kind, patient and polite with customers; with no doubt; yes, he was a good waiter.

Hacía cosas sorprendentes, como aquel día que se enjuagó la boca con fairy… He also used to make surpresingly things, such that day when he clean his teeth with fairy from the kitchen…
