Un lunes por la
noche, no había demasiado trabajo y completamos sólo medio turno. Eran
alrededor de las 21.30 cuando abrí la puerta del staff room para coger mi abrigo y volver a casa. Allí, cambiándose
de ropa, me encontré con Ebadul,
otro de mis compañeros, que normalmente trabajaba en el bar, de cara al público. One
Monday evening, there was not too much work and we only completed a half shift.
It was around 21.30 hours when I opened the staff room door in order to take my
jacket and go back home. Just there, changing his clothes, I met Ebadul, another of my workmates, who
usually used to be at the bar, directly with public.
Ebadul me
preguntó si había salido a tomar algo algún día por el barrio y yo le contesté
que no. Ebadul asked

Llovía y ninguno
de los dos llevaba paraguas. It

Montamos en su
coche y nos dirigimos hacia el lado opuesto del parque donde se situaba nuestro
restaurante. El caso es que terminamos sentados en un restaurant de lo más cool
– ni más ni menos que el de la competencia, según me dijo -, bastante próximo

El té se toma tan caliente
que para poder beberlo uno ha de hacerlo a pequeños sorbos, permitiendo que el

Me reveló que era de Bangladesh
y que había estudiado Historia en la Universidad. Ebadul era profesor. He told me that he
was natural from Banglades and that he had been studying History at the
University. Ebadul was an adult´s teacher.
Ebadul, bilingüe, me
contó que Amen
llevaba trabajando allí más de tres años. Él creía que nuestro compañero podía llegar
a ser un buen manager, pero que el
hecho de que no hablara inglés con la necesaria fluidez era un handicap. Ebadul, bilingual, told me that Amen had been working
there for more than three years. He considered that our mate could become a
proper manager, but the fact of he was not enough fluent with his English was a
true handicap.
Ojalá – pensé- algún día sea
capaz de mejorar el dominio del idioma y superar las barreras del lenguaje. I wish – I thought – some day he
will be able to improve his level and overcome any short of language border.
De Ebadul, me quedo con su
capacidad de improvisación y adaptación a las circunstancias, su capacidad de
toma de iniciativa al margen de cualquier otra orden preestablecida. What I learned from Ebadul, was his
capacity of extemporizing and adaptation to the ongoing circumstances, his
capacity for taking risks, independently of any other pre - stablished order.
Pocos como él fueron tan cercanos
en el trato conmigo, respetando siempre mi espacio. He respected my own espace, he was attentive to me as
a few, I always felt him very close to me.
