Todavía conservo en la memoria la imagen de aquel paraguas de La Casa de los paraguas,aquella vetusta tienda de la Calle Sastres, a dos manzanas de la Plaza de los Cacharros, dedicada en exclusiva a la venta y arreglo de paraguas. Las personas que lo regentaban eran profesionales duchos en la materia, la tercera generación de paragüeros, expertos en su oficio, elevado casi a la categoría de arte. I still keep in my mind the image of that umbrella from the Umbrella home; that ancient shop in Tailor Street, two blocks far away from Pottery Square, dedicated exclusively to the selling and the repairing of umbrellas. The regents were a very good professionals, really confident on the subject, experts on their trade, a noble craft elevate to the category of art.

Allí se vendían paraguas nuevos y se arreglaban los viejos, pero me quedé con una duda… There you could buy a new one or fix a broken one, but I was doubting about something…

¿Qué pasaba con los paraguas que se jubilaban? What was happening with the retired umbrellas?

Porque los paraguas también se jubilan, se retiran a descansar, a disfrutar del tiempo de su vejez… ¿no? Because they also get retired, they go for resting, for enjoying its old age… no?

Paraguas es uno – singular - pero también dos o más – plural -. El abanico de
modelos rozaba casi lo infinito. Abarcaba desde los más tradicionales, los más
extravagantes, los de viaje, los infantiles… Me llamó mucho la atención que
contaran incluso con paraguas con el puño de plata. Aunque; con toda
sinceridad, lo que más me impresionó fue leer sobre una de las etiquetas; paraguas telescópico. Telescópico… ¿te imaginas? Poder disfrutar en una misma velada de la compañía de las estrellas y la lluvia a un mismo tiempo se me apetecía como algo inalcanzable – al menos hasta ese momento -. In Spanish “paraguas” – umbrella- it is singular (one only) but also two or more umbrellas – plural-. The range of models was just infinite, from the most traditional, to the most eccentric, those for travelling, those for kids… I even noticed that they had also several items with a silver handle. Although, honestly, what actually more impressed me was to read on one of the labels this: telescopic umbrella. Telescopic… can you imagine? How it will feel to enjoy at the same soirée the starts view and the rain falling onto you at the same time… At least till that moment, I had thought it was something impossible to get.
